X-rays negative after Jonathan Stewart suffered ankle injury
Newly minted Carolina Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart was knocked out of a preseason game for the second consecutive week Sunday night.
Stewart suffered an ankle injury late in the second quarter at MetLife Stadium against the New York Jets. He was forced out of bounds by safety LaRon Landry and twisted his ankle as he went down. Eventually he was taken to the locker room on a cart. Stewart suffered a calf injury last week.
X-rays on his ankle were negative Panthers coach Ron Rivera said, according to the Charlotte Observer.
“It looked like he had a twisted ankle, sprained it a little bit,” Rivera said. “We’re going to be very careful with it obviously. We got X-rays, completely negative. I’ll tell you right now, he’s not going to play on Thursday (at Pittsburgh).”
Hopefully, Stewart will be ready to go early in the season.
