Wade Phillips to coach Sunday following his father's death
Houston Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips will be coaching with a heavy heart Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs.
His father, NFL icon Bum Phillips, died Friday night at age 90.
“I was blessed to have him as a father and coach,” Wade Phillips told the Houston Chronicle. “I got to coach with him for 11 years. He taught me everything I know about coaching. He taught me right and wrong. He taught me to enjoy life.”
Phillips made it to his father's home in Goliad, Texas, after practice to see him before he passed.
“I’m so glad I got to see him,” Phillips said. “Dad was such a humble man. I think he’d want to be remembered as someone who treated people well. He was a legend, and the legend will live on."
