Jerome Simpson won’t be able to play for the first three games of the season but maybe he did a flip anyway when he agreed to terms on a contract with the Minnesota Vikings.

Simpson will join the Vikings on a one-year deal, according to Jay Glazer of Fox Sports, giving them a talented young producer who has a second chance. Simpson was suspended by the league for three games for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. He served 15 days in jail for receiving a package of marijuana at his Kentucky residence.

Simpson made 50 receptions for 725 yards with four touchdowns last season in Cincinnati. He isn’t going to be a No. 1 receiver but he has the skill to be a solid complementary target for a team that has been in need of upgrading itself at the position.

If Simpson can perform and stay out of problem, he will likely be in position for a longer deal.
