Titans offered more money to Ken Whisenhunt

It was widely assumed that the Lions would land Chargers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt based on his relationship to friend and current Detroit GM Martin Mayhew.

But often times, money can form a stronger bond when making decisions on a career. According to a report from ESPN.com, Whisenhunt chose the Titans over the Lions because Tennessee was able to offer an additional $1 million per season.

Money talks, and it would appear Whisenhunt listened to what Tennessee had to say. Detroit then turned to No. 2 option Jim Caldwell, who accepted the Lions' head coaching job Tuesday afternoon.
