There was some wonder as to when the top SEC quarterbacks would be drafted.

In the fifth round, two of them went in back-to-back picks. With the 163rd overall pick, the Kansas City Chiefs took Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray, the SEC's career leader in passing yards (13,166), touchdowns (121) and completions (921).

One pick later, the Cincinnati Bengals selected Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron, a two-time national champion with the Crimson Tide.

Murray could be walking into a great situation in Kansas City. According to reports this past week, negotiations have not gone smoothly with Alex Smith on a new deal. Smith is set to become a free agent after the 2014 season at this time.

Murray's quick release makes him an ideal fit for an offense such as Andy Reid's West Coast scheme.

McCarron will presumably back up Andy Dalton this season, though Dalton is set to be a free agent in 2015 as well. It remains to be seen whether the Bengals lock Dalton up now or make him play out the season to see whether he's the quarterback of the foreseeable future in Cincinnati.

The last SEC quarterback highly thought of in this draft, LSU's Zach Mettenberger, has yet to be selected yet.
