Saints extend Sean Payton through 2015

The New Orleans Saints have extended the contract of coach Sean Payton through the 2015 season.

Payton’s previous deal had him locked down through the 2012 season, but he’s now got terms that carry for three more seasons through 2015. That means he’ll be roaming the sidelines for the Saints for five more seasons starting with Thursday’s 2011 season opener at Green Bay.

“I am very pleased to announce this contract extension today for Sean that will run through the 2015 season,” team owner Tom Benson said in a statement released by the club. “Our goal is to continue to build a TRADITION of winning here in New Orleans and Sean represents that tradition.”
