That loud thud you heard Monday night was the Dallas Cowboys’ season crashing in a fiery ball into the Earth.

But at least one person refuses to believe it’s over, and there could be a second because we’ve yet to see if Captain Optimistic, Jerry Jones, has weighed in on the matter.

After losing Tony Romo for the foreseeable future to a broken clavicle – and it’s possible the quarterback is done for the remainder of the season – Roy Williams is upbeat.

Maybe that’s because the wide receiver put up huge numbers playing with Kitna on some teams in Detroit that didn’t, you know, win a lot of games.

“Tony is our starter, but Jon is just as good,'' Williams said, according to the Dallas Morning News. "We are going to work this week in practice so we can get the timing down with the receivers. But I have complete faith in him. I have played with him for three years and I know how good he is.''

Why does Williams have so much strong faith in the 38-year-old Kitna?

"He will put the ball where it needs to be,'' Williams said. "Is he going to be perfect? Of course not. There isn't a quarterback in this league that is perfect. He is going to make mistakes but we have to help him.''

The Cowboys didn’t roll over and play dead after Romo was knocked out on a hit in the second quarter by New York Giants linebacker Michael Boley, but the offense wasn’t a machine, either. He completed 16 of 33 passes for 187 yards and two touchdowns, and it wasn’t good enough. Obviously, Kitna will not get the work with the first team in practice, but this team is a perfect month – MONTH – away from .500 football. You’re not going to find anyone who believes that will materialize.

"Every week is different in this league," Kitna said. "I have learned that over the years and you just have to prepare as well as you can.”
