Report: LSU's Mathieu and Ware suspended

LSU will be without star sophomores Spencer Ware and Tyrann Mathieu for Saturday's game against Auburn after failing a drug test, according to The Daily Reveille, the school's student newspaper.

Worse yet for LSU is that the suspensions could be for more than one game.

LSU associate athletics director and sports information director Michael Bonnette did not comment on the matter, but he neither confirmed nor denied the story.

Ware leads the Tigers in rushing at 512 yards and has scored six touchdowns this fall, but the team has good backfield depth in the form of Michael Ford and Alfred Blue. However, Ware is the one who brings the most physical presence to the backfield for the Tigers.

Mathieu, a cornerback nicknamed "Honey Badger," has played himself into Heisman Trophy consideration after forcing six turnovers and scoring two touchdowns on defense and special teams this season.

Tigers head coach Les Miles has a regularly scheduled press conference at 7 p.m. ET tonight, so this topic will surely be brought up early and often.
