Report: DeVries will re-sign with Lions

Jared DeVries will re-sign with the Detroit Lions on Monday, about a month-and-a-half after the club had released him.

The Lions will bring back the defensive end who has spent his entire career with the organization, according to John Niyo of the Detroit News.

DeVries was cut loose in late February before a $400,000 roster bonus was due at the start of the league year. According to Niyo, the new deal will be worth $1.7 million for this season – what he would have earned under the previous deal. DeVries had said that he hoped to return to the club. He’s a solid locker room presence and it’s a smart move for the club.

Another question the team had was about DeVries’ health. He suffered a torn Achilles tendon in training camp last summer. The club now believes he is healthy and he’ll be back in the fold.
