Report: Chargers to fire Turner, Smith

The frustrating run of Coach Norv Turner and General Manager A.J. Smith in San Diego is over, according to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The moves, if and when they happen, are not unexpected as the San Diego Union-Tribune reported weeks ago that both men would be fired at season's end.

Chargers team president Dean Spanos is expected to address the media today.

Turner sounded as if he expected to be fired following Sunday's win over Oakland that left the Chargers at 7-9 for the season. The Chargers are out of the playoffs for the third straight season.

"Obviously, we're going to meet with the team and I'm sure they'll start looking for a new coach," Turner said.

Smith, who hired Turner in 2007 after Marty Schottenheimer was fired, is also expected out after the talent base on the roster has eroded over the year, in part because of his hard-line tactics.
