Report: Bigger role in Dallas for Romo involves say in game plan, personnel

To those much is given, much is expected.

Such is the case with Tony Romo. The Dallas Cowboys quarterback had the team over a barrel when it came to the salary cap earlier this offseason and that was just one factor in the massive $108 million, six-year contract extension he received.

The Cowboys have placed their faith – and the future of at least the next three seasons – in Romo. It’s incumbent upon him to lead the team and in that vein he’s going to have a greater role in the process as a whole. According to Ed Werder of ESPN, Romo will have “influence in game plans, personnel and play calling.”

Werder reports that Romo will join coaches on Mondays and Tuesdays as the weekly game plans are assimilated and have an opportunity to provide input. This isn’t completely unheard of. A quarterback is always going to have influence over play calling, what he is comfortable with and what works to his strengths. But giving players say when it comes to personnel might not be a bad idea.

We’ll see how this shakes out in Dallas.
