Redskins fire two assistant coaches
The Jay Gruden effect can already be felt.
After hiring Gruden to become the Redskins' new head coach, two assistants under Mike Shanahan have since been relieved of their duties. According to a report from radio station ESPN 980, the Redskins have fired running backs coach Bobby Turner and defensive backs coach Richard Hightower.
Turner was also an assistant head coach and Hightower doubled up as an assistant on special teams.
While the defensive backs struggled in Washington this year, the running backs didn't, which could cause some concern with Turner's dismissal.
Granted, Gruden will have a new scheme from what Shanahan ran, Turner coached Alfred Morris to two consecutive 1,000-yard seasons and had a long history of success a Shanahan's running backs coach in Denver.
Gruden must have an idea of who he wants to bring in to fill that void. Otherwise, he wouldn't let someone with that kind of track record walk.
