In case you were in need of your Cam Newton fix for the day, something’s always burning on that front — especially when it involves former Mississippi State player Kenny Rogers.

The man who was alleged to have sought money to sign Newton to a national letter of intent with Mississippi State gave an interview to ESPN 103.3 in Dallas Thursday and was asked if Cam Newton’s father, Cecil, ever told him how much cash it would take to get the then-JUCO player to play in Starkville.

“Yes he did,” Rogers said. When asked how much, Rogers replied: “Anywhere between $100,000 and $180,000."

Rogers said that he and Cecil Newton first corresponded after Cam Newton left Florida after the 2008 season. The former Bulldogs player said Cecil Newton told him when his son chooses his next school “it's not gonna be free this time.”

Rogers stated in the interview that he was involved with Cecil Newton only in regards to Mississippi State.

Cecil Newton asked Rogers after the Egg Bowl on Nov. 28, 2009, if he thought the transaction to get Newton into Mississippi State would go through. After being referred to a Mississippi State booster named Bill Bell, Rogers said he left Bell a message telling him he was with Newton and wanted a status update.

Rogers stated that he didn't know if Cam Newton knew about the request for money and said he didn't know anything about Newton's recruitment at Auburn or any other school. Whether or not Auburn paid for Newton is unknown.

Both Newtons have denied any wrongdoing and Auburn has maintained that the signal caller is eligible to play.

In an interview with the same Dallas station last week, Rogers denied having solicited Newton to Mississippi State.

The NCAA continues to investigate Newton's recruitment out of Blinn Junior College.
