Pierre Thomas still hopeful for a deal with Saints

Pierre Thomas remains hopeful that he can work out a longterm contract extension with the New Orleans Saints after being one of the stars of Super Bowl XLIV.

Thomas is a restricted free agent, but doesn’t figure to be going anywhere. He was tendered at the second-round level, and stands to earn $1.684 million this season. But the Saints aren’t likely to let him go anywhere, not after Mike Bell already exited for Philadelphia as an RFA.

“We’re working on something,” Thomas told the Baton Rouge Advocate. “I’m hoping it’s sooner than later because I want to feel like I’m here. The fans gave me a shot, the Saints gave me a shot. This is where I want to be.”

The only potential issue is that often times teams will look to avoid making serious investments in running backs based on the short careers many of the men in the line of work have. The Saints have all of the leverage right now too. They’ve been focused on re-signing their own. We’ll see if Thomas achieves happiness in this regard.
