Panthers select Ernie Accorsi to assist with GM search

Ernie Accorsi will assist Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson in his search for a new general manager.

The Panthers fired Marty Hurney from the position last month and are seeking a replacement, one Accorsi will have a strong say in selecting.

The former general manager of the New York Giants and Cleveland Browns is dialed into the league and should be able to help Richardson make a good selection.

"I have a very high regard for Mr. Richardson and look forward to providing any help that I can to him and the organization in their search for a new general manager," Accorsi said in a statement, according to the Charlotte Observer.

The Panthers announced that the consultant would spend time studying the organization from top to bottom and watch film of the team. We’ll see what direction this heads but it is unlikely the Panthers will be able to make a move until after the season ends.
