Panthers add competition for rookie punter

The Carolina Panthers picked up a punter in the sixth round when they selected Wisconsin’s Brad Nortman.

That doesn’t mean they are going to flat out hand him the job. To ensure he has to earn it, the Panthers have signed veteran journeyman Nick Harris.

A longtime punter for the Detroit Lions, Harris played for the Jacksonville Jaguars last season. He was released by Jacksonville, which used a third-round pick on punter Bryan Anger.

The Panthers are seeking up upgrade over Jason Baker, who they released in March as he was due to earn $1.55 million this season.
