Packers Hall of Fame tried to lure Favre back for Holmgren ceremony

The Packers Hall of Fame, which is run independently of the franchise, invited Brett Favre to return this summer for the induction of former coach Mike Holmgren but it does not appear he will make it.

According to ESPN Milwaukee, former Packers president Bob Harlan is disappointed it won’t come together as hoped with the idea being it could begin to rebuild a bridge between the longtime quarterback and the franchise.

The Packers Hall of Fame reached out to Favre’s agent Bus Cook but to no avail.

“We had a meeting about two months ago and talked about who should be invited back – Jon Gruden, Andy Reid, people like that,” Harlan said. “And, we talked about players. And I said to the group, ‘What about No. 4? This would be the perfect time for him to come back, come into Green Bay.’

“The crowd at the Hall of Fame banquet is an adoring crowd, they’re as loyal to the Green Bay Packers as anybody.’ And unfortunately, I don’t think he’s going to do it. We did approach his agent, and I don’t think Brett’s going to do it. I feel badly about that.

“In my mind, there would not have been a better place for him to make his return to Green Bay.”

Surely in the future there will be a reconciliation for Favre and the club. Current Packers president Mark Murphy has talked about retiring Favre’s No. 4 but wanting to do so at the appropriate time. With any luck, that day will arrive sooner rather than later.
