Packers announce new contract for Mike McCarthy
Mike McCarthy has reaped the rewards of success.
The Green Bay Packers announced this afternoon that the Super Bowl winning coach has signed a new multi-year contract. Reports are that he will be in place now through 2015, which means he’s signed on for five more seasons.
McCarthy led the Packers to victory in Super Bowl XLV last month in his fifth season on the job. His big announcement comes on the heels of an extension for general manager Ted Thompson that was announced shortly after the victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Thompson is also in place through 2015.
“We are very pleased to finalize this agreement with Mike,” Thompson said in a statement released by the team. “He’s a good football coach, a good leader, and a good man. I look forward to working with Mike into the future.”
The 47-year-old McCarthy owns a 53-34 record (.609), including postseason, since taking over in 2006.
The Packers also signed all of their assistant coaches to one-year extensions that will carry through the 2012 season, according to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. So, everyone was rewarded for a championship season.
