NFP power rankings

With an NFL-best quarterback rating of 114.5 through the first four weeks of the season, San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers continues to expand upon one of the greatest career comebacks in recent memory.

It was just two years ago that, under then-head coach Norv Turner, the North Carolina State product appeared to be entering the twilight of his career thanks to a 32-game stretch that resulted in 35 interceptions and just 15 regular season victories. The Chargers had missed the playoffs for the third-consecutive season, Turner was dismissed and many began to speculate whether Rivers’ time in San Diego was nearing its conclusion.

Fast-forward to October of the 2014 season and life is good in Southern California. The Bolts are 3-1 with a marquee win over defending champion Seattle and Rivers ranks in the top-six in the NFL in completion percentage, passing yards, touchdowns, yards per attempt average and quarterback rating.

With upcoming contests against the struggling Jets and Raiders, Rivers and the Chargers could very well be sitting pretty at 5-1 entering a mid-October five-day stretch that features a home showdown with the Kansas City Chiefs and road date with the Denver Broncos.

Things are about to get very interesting in the AFC West.

The numbers in brackets indicate each team’s Power Ranking, which is based on a scale of 60-100. These numbers can be used as a baseline to determine the point spread between any two teams on the list. Keep in mind that these numbers do not account for home field advantage, situational analysis (extra rest, back-to-back road games, divisional rivalries, etc), injuries, weather or public perception. They are merely to be used as a baseline for your initial analysis.
