Michael Vick not a person of interest for Virginia Beach cops

If Michael Vick is going to continue celebrating his 30th birthday this weekend, there’s one additional reason to party – Virginia Beach, Va., police have said that Vick is “of no interest to us” as they investigate the shooting of one of Vick’s co-defendants in the dogfighting trial three years ago outside Vick’s bash Thursday night.

Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News reports that police are focusing their investigation elsewhere into the shooting of Quanis Phillips, who was not critically wounded by a shot to his leg.

That’s the good news for Vick. The (potentially) bad news is that he was around Phillips, who he was ordered not to associate with following his trial. Though the law might not come after Vick, the long arm of Roger Goodell might reach out. Vick’s birthday bash was an extravagant event, the kind you figured he would continue to look to avoid following his reinstatement to the NFL almost a year ago.

“Needless to say, your margin for error is extremely limited,” Goodell wrote in a letter when Vick was allowed back into the league.

Look for the NFL to track down the facts on this case. It wouldn’t surprise us in the least if Goodell wants to have a chat with the Philadelphia Eagles backup quarterback.
