McDermott commits to Miami (FL) over Notre Dame

Miami (FL) landed a big fish in the Class of 2014 when Kc McDermott announced Tuesday that he intends to play for the Hurricanes.

The 6-6, 297-pound Palm Beach Central High School (Wellington, FL) offensive tackle chose the 'Canes over a host of other major schools, including Notre Dame. The five-star offensive lineman said that staying close to home was a main factor in his decision.

Both the Hurricanes and the Irish have family ties to McDermott, as middle brother Shane started at center for Miami as a redshirt sophomore in 2012 and oldest brother Tyler was recently hired by the Irish to serve as a graduate assistant.

McDermott said he plans to enroll early at Miami so he can take part in the team's spring practices next year.
