Matt Moore confident he can play Sunday

Matt Moore returned to practice Wednesday for the Carolina Panthers and is optimistic he will be cleared to play Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers a week after suffering a concussion in the season opener against the New York Giants.

Under NFL guidelines, adopted last year after Ben Roethlisberger was sidelined with a concussion, Moore had to be given the OK to return by a team physician and an outside and independent neurologist. Coach John Fox said Moore appeared fine, according to the Charlotte Observer.

“I remember the long ride to the hospital in the cold ambulance (after the game),” Moore said. “I felt, obviously, the worst right after it happened. I felt a little nauseous. But after that it kind of cleared up quickly. I got some good rest and here I am.”

Moore said it was the first concussion he has had since junior high. The ambulance ride might make him think twice about trying to play this Sunday. Concussions are a big focus around the league. Chicago linebacker Hunter Hillenmeyer was placed on injured reserve. Giants tight end Kevin Boss has been ruled out for this week. It would be surprising if quarterback Kevin Kolb or linebacker Stewart Bradley play for the Eagles this week.
