Mark Dominik gets four-year extension from Bucs

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers cannot sign players during the lockout, but they found a way to get some business done when it was announced this morning that general manager Mark Dominik has signed a four-year contract extension.

Just more than two years after Dominik took over the franchise after surprising and sweeping moves that ushered out G.M. Bruce Allen and coach Jon Gruden, Dominik has been rewarded for his work.

The Buccaneers became one of the rare teams in the NFL to finish 10-6 this past season and not qualify for the playoffs. The team is stocked with a wealth of talent on both sides of the ball as Tampa has excelled in the draft while tight financial ways have limited what they’ve done in other avenues of player procurement.

“I am appreciative of the confidence the Glazer family has in the direction of the franchise,” Dominik said on the team’s Web site. “I am looking forward to working into my 20th year as a proud part of this community and organization. The mission is to continue building this team into a lasting contender and to bring championships back to the Tampa Bay area.”

The Bucs excercised a two-year option for coach Raheem Morris following last season.

“It has been a pleasure working with a person and a talent like Mark, and so gratifying to witness his well-deserved success,” said Bucs Co-Chairman Joel Glazer. “By the end of this contract, Mark will have dedicated two decades to giving Tampa the winner it deserves.”
