Mark Anderson lands in Houston

Mark Anderson has reunited with Adewale Ogunleye.

The Houston Texans have signed Anderson less than 24 hours after he was surprisingly released by the Chicago Bears. The Texans picked up Ogunleye at the start of the season after Connor Barwin was lost for the season.

Now, the Texans bring in Anderson as a bit of a reclamation process. Anderson was second in the defensive rookie of the year voting in 2006 behind Houston linebacker DeMeco Ryans, his teammate from Alabama.

Anderson had 12 sacks during his rookie season and 16 in his first 20 games in the NFL. But he’s had just five sacks over the last 46 games and after counting on him to flourish opposite Julius Peppers, the Bears gave up on him.

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports that Anderson will practice on Thursday.

Anderson is expected to claim termination pay from the Bears. He had signed a tender as a restricted free agent for $1.759 million, and the pro-rated remaining portion of that is more than $1.3 million. That means he'll be double-dipping with the Texans.
