The Detroit Lions talked about being improved this season but you wondered just how improved they would be and what kind of actual difference you would see where it counts – in the standings.

Three weeks in and the Lions are 0-3 and in a familiar position – in the basement of the NFC North. With chances to get back in their game on Sunday at Minnesota, quarterback Shaun Hill threw interceptions in the red zone.

Don’t look now, but Tom "Killer" Kowalski of MLive.com reports that coach Jim Schwartz is on the verge of history. A loss this week against the Green Bay Packers would make the second-year coach 2-18 and put him off to the worst start in franchise history. We’re talking about a franchise that has reached a lot of lows recently, and one that’s never reached the Super Bowl.

As Kowalski notes, Marty Mornhinweg, paired together with rookie general manager Matt Millen, had three victories in his first 20 games. You have to go to the pre-Super Bowl era to find a Lions coach who had a winning record after his first 20 games – George Wilsin in 1958-58.

The game will be at Lambeau Field where the Lions last triumphed in 1991.
