Jets Acquire Ryan Fitzpatrick from the Texans

New York Jets GM Mike Maccagnan continued to make moves today by acquiring quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick from the Texans for a conditional seventh-round pick in 2016. After the Texans signed Brian Hoyer, Fitzpatrick became expendable.

The deal made a lot of sense for the Jets. Fitzpatrick has experience working under new offensive coordinator Chan Gailey when they were both with the Bills. He already understands the offense and will be a solid role model and teacher for Geno Smith or potentially Marcus Mariota.

In limited starts with the Texans last year, Fitzpatrick ranked as the #11 quarterback in the league according to Pro Football Focus, posting 17 touchdowns to just 8 interceptions. With the acquisition of Darelle Revis and re-signing of David Harris the Jets defense should again be very solid, and they will need stable, error free play from the quarterback position. Fitzpatrick should be able to deliver on that need and is a solid acquisition as the Jets figure out their long-term solution.
