Jerry Jones says he, NFL take responsibility for fiasco

The NFL experienced the most embarrassing Super Bowl situation earlier this month since the last time the league’s marquee event was held in Texas and Janet Jackson couldn’t keep her top on.

But Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said there is a “very outstanding” chance he will be hosting another Super Bowl at Cowboys Stadium in the near future.

Jones, speaking to reporters who regularly cover the Cowboys, took some responsibility for the seating fiasco that marred Super Bowl XLV. Of course, Jones isn’t going to can himself and it remains to be seen if heads in the league office will roll.

“I do, along with the NFL, take responsibility for the seating issue,’’ Jones said. “Some of the things we would like to improve on regarding the seating issue, informing the fans that were involved, all of those areas, the NFL and I take responsibility for.

“You always like to look at areas you can be better, get better. We certainly intend to and will get much better in terms of the seating and how that is handled. I don’t have a lot of details for you, relative to specifics, but that’s part of the process of the work ahead to do it better.’’

Per the report by David Moore of the Dallas Morning News, at least three lawsuits have been filed against the league and the Cowboys. Beyond accepting some of the blame, Jones declined to speak in specifics about the failure to have the stadium safely prepared.

“I am disappointed, but I understand that criticism,’’ Jones said. “It makes me want to get it right. It creates a real desire on my part to do better.

“We’re very proud of everything that we presented to get the Super Bowl. We’re so proud, and so many things went so right and were exceptional, just exceptional, exceeded anything the NFL expected.

“There were a lot of things that went right, but I do understand and regret and am disappointed for the fans and share that responsibility and do it in a way that is really the only way that I can, which is to go to work.’’
