Jay Cutler has to 'play better,' not being benched
The Chicago Bears have no plans to bench quarterback Jay Cutler.
But they need him to play much better, coach Marc Trestman acknowledged.
Cutler played badly during a 55-14 loss to the Green Bay Packers.
"He didn't play well enough yesterday, and we didn't play well enough," Trestman said. "I'm certain he'd take accountability for that. But it's very clear he did not play well enough yesterday. We can't sugarcoat that. At the same time, we didn't play collectively well enough as a team."
Cutler was intercepted twice in the loss with one returned for a touchdown.
Cutler has 22 interceptions against the Packers and is 1-11 against them.
For the season, Cutler has 10 interceptions and five lost fumbles. He's 8-12 since Trestman took over.
"Certainly we know that Jay's not comfortable with the way he played yesterday, no doubt about it," Trestman said. "It's just an individual basis. I think that we've all got to do better. I know it starts with the quarterback. It always does. But there's a lot of things that have got to [happen] before something like that would be a consideration."
