Jake Ballard had a promising start to his career when he was with the New York Giants.

In his second season, the former Ohio State tight end become a contributor for the Giants, especially later in the season. He was also able to fulfill a dream of playing in Super Bowl XLVI againt the New England Patriots.

That's when it all started to go awry. In the fourth quarter, Ballard tore his ACL. He was placed on the waived/injured list by the Giants following the end of the season, after the Giants were able to hold on for 21-17 win over the Patriots.

Usually, teams don't claim waived/injured players. But the team the Giants beat decided to do so with Ballard. Just like that, Ballard was leaving the team he'd grown accustomed to. Since, he's gone from New England to Arizona, where he's looking to latch on again in 2014.

His journey has made him appreciate the game a little more.

"I don't think anybody has been through the trials and tribulations like I have, the highest of highs and the lowest of lows," Ballard told The Arizona Republic. "It's been mentally challenging and physically challenging. But it's definitely been worth it."

As of now, Ballard is the third tight end on the Cardinals' roster behind Rob Housler and John Carlson. Time will tell whether Ballard can get back to where he was prior to the ACL injury in the Giants' Super Bowl win.
