Injury bug hits Texas Tech
When new Texas Tech head coach Tommy Tuberville took over in Lubbock this past January, he made it clear the starting quarterback position would be up for grabs.
The showdown that pitted senior signal-callers Steven Sheffield and Taylor Potts against one another took an unfortunate turn this week as both quarterbacks suffered injuries.
The bad news for Sheffield is that his injury is more serious.
The 6’4”, 175-pounder is expected to miss 8-10 weeks after undergoing foot surgery on Monday to repair a bone he originally injured against Nebraska back in October, according to the Associated Press.
The 22-year-old Sheffield threw for 1,219 yards and 14 touchdowns for the Red Raiders in 2009.
Meanwhile, the 6’5”, 218-pound Potts will miss the next week of practice after getting stitches between his index and middle fingers. Potts hit his hand on a helmet while attempting a pass in practice earlier this week.
Potts threw for 3,440 yards and 22 touchdowns last season.
