Hurst Jr. commits to Michigan
Maurice Hurst Jr., one of the better defensive tackles in the Class of 2013, committed to Michigan on Saturday afternoon.
The Xaverian Brothers High School (Westwood, MA) star was on an unofficial visit to the campus when he decided to choose the Wolverines over Virginia, N.C. State, North Carolina and Michigan State, among others. He also attended Ohio State's spring game in April.
The 6-2, 275-pounder is the top defender in the state of Massachusetts after making 61 tackles, including 13.5 tackles for loss, and recording seven sacks in 2011. He also notched 200 rushing yards in a game, including a 75-yard touchdown run. That versatility and athleticism will be welcomed by Brady Hoke, Greg Mattison and the Michigan defensive staff.
Hurst Jr., who is the 19th commitment for Michigan in the Class of 2013, projects as a nose tackle and a 3-technique at the next level.
It will be interesting to see if the commitment of Hurst Jr. sways Henry Poggi, another Class of 2013 defensive tackle. He has been recruited very hard by both Michigan and Alabama. Hurst Jr. joins fellow commit Taco Charlton along the defensive line in the Wolverines' 2013 class. Charlton is an Ohio native.
