Chris Cooley 'concerned' news on his knee was spread

Usually, it’s coaches and front office-types who get upset when news about injuries reaches the media.

This time, it’s a player that’s not happy with the leak.

Specifically, Washington Redskins tight end Chris Cooley is “concerned” coach Mike Shanahan revealed on Thursday that the veteran recently had fluid drained from his left knee, the same one he had arthroscopic surgery on.

Because everyone thinks it’s drained, that’s a huge deal,” Cooley said, according to the Washington Post. “No, that’s not a big deal. Guys get things drained all the time.”

Cooley said he expects to play on Sunday when the Redskins host the Philadelphia Eagles at FedEx Field. The Redskins are coming off their bye week.

“It’s not all of a sudden worse because (it was drained),” Cooley said. “I’m fine. It’s something that I’m managing and it’s something that I deal with every day. I’m able to practice every day. I’m a firm believer in practice making you better, so I get myself ready to practice and play every day.”

Cooley has played in all four regular-season games but his role in the offense has been reduced as Fred Davis flourishes.
