Chip Kelly: Eagles had no trade offers for DeSean Jackson

Even though they tried, there was no chance the Philadelphia Eagles were going to trade DeSean Jackson.

Speaking to reporters at the 18th annual Eagles Youth Partnership Playground Build, Kelly said there were no takers on the market.

"We were going in a different direction at the wide receiver position," Kelly said, via the team's website. "We came back from the Owners Meetings and we had no takers from a trade standpoint, so we thought that it was best at that point and time to release him."

The move, despite the rumors that Jackson was being shopped, did catch some people off guard based on the fact the speedy receiver put in his best season of his career (1,332 yards, nine touchdowns). Washington quickly scooped him up and signed him to a deal.

Kelly added that off-field concers were not a factor in his release.

"It has nothing to do with anything that was ever written in a newspaper or any off-field behavior from him," Kelly said. "DeSean was great the year I was with him. We wish him nothing but the best in terms of where he's going to be. It's a decision that we made as a team that a lot of teams make at that point and time.

"Tampa made a decision like that (with Darrelle Revis). Chicago made a decision (with Julius Peppers). Dallas made a decision (with DeMarcus Ware). It's just part of the game of football. We wish him the best of luck. I know he's down in Washington now. We'll face him twice a year. I've got nothing but good things to say about DeSean."
