Cardinals trade Reggie Wells to Eagles

The Arizona Cardinals wouldn’t seem to be in a position where they can be giving up quality offensive linemen.

Perhaps they know something the Philadelphia Eagles don’t. Whatever the case, the Cardinals traded veteran guard Reggie Wells to the Eagles today, getting a sixth-round draft pick next year in exchange.

Wells, who will turn 30 in November, has made 90 career starts in Arizona and didn’t miss a game the last four seasons. He’s out, though, and it looks like Deuce Lutui may have worked his way back into the starting lineup.

Wells projects to be a reserve in Philadelphia for the time being. Speculation has been the move is not good news for Max Jean-Gilles. Remember, veteran guard Todd Herremans has been bothered by an ongoing foot issue.

“We’re adding a player that has started several seasons in the National Football League and has played at a very high level during the course of his career,” Eagles coach Andy Reid said. “He has experience at several different positions along the offensive line and he will be a welcome addition to that group. You can never have enough depth at that position.”

The Eagles placed defensive end Victor Abiamiri on the reserve/physically unable to perform list. The club announced that the following players have been released: RB?J.J. Arrington, WR?Dobson Collins, DE?Pannel Egboh, TE?Nate Lawrie, RB?Martell Mallett, T?Jeraill McCuller, CB?David Pender, CB?Geoff Pope, DT?Boo Robinson, and S?Anthony Scirrotto.

By releasing Arrington, the Eagles will now receive a sixth-round draft pick from Denver in 2012 as compensation for trading linebacker Joe Mays to the Broncos.
