Cardinals aren't ready for Alan Faneca to retire

The Arizona Cardinals have got some rebuilding to do and it starts at quarterback where a year removed from the Kurt Warner era, they’ve got an acute need.

But they also need to re-tool the offensive line. One player they want back in the mix is veteran guard Alan Faneca, who was added last season after the longtime Pittsburgh Steeler spent two seasons with the New York Jets. Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt told Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic that the team wants Faneca to return.

But the 34-year-old has said he’s considering retirement. The nine-time All-Pro and nine-time Pro Bowl performer has not missed a start in the past nine seasons. He’s got a very close relationship with Russ Grimm, the Cardinals offensive line coach. Maybe Grimm is the man to talk him into coming back. At the least, Faneca is a terrific role model for the younger players the Cardinals also need to add.
