Former BYU running back Harvey Unga had his request for fall readmission denied, ending his prolific Cougars career.

Unga, who became the school’s all-time leading rusher last season, withdrew from classes in April after stating that he had violated the school's honor code. He hoped to return to complete his degree and play his final season in the fall.

School administrators decided the earliest he could return to school would be in January, meaning that entering this summer’s NFL supplemental draft or signing with an NFL team as a college free agent are Unga’s best options if he wants to continue playing football.

Unga rushed for 3,455 yards in his career, including three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons.

The Cougars will now look at a variety of options to try to fill their running back void. Juniors Bryan Kariya, J.J. DiLuigi and Mike Hague, along with true freshman Joshua Quezada, will all compete for reps during fall camp.
