Buccaneers limiting fan access to training camp
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, only missing their old creamsicle uniforms as they transition back to their days as the Yuccaneers, are facing the prospect of widespread local television blackouts this season as fans are expected to stay away from the pirate ship known as Raymond James Stadium.
They will be staying away from training camp this summer too, but that is more the direct doing of the club than the choice of fans to allocate their entertainment dollars elsewhere. According to a report in the Tampa Tribune, the Bucs are “sharply reducing” the number of training camp practices that will be open to the public this summer.
Only seven practices will be open to Joe Fan after 23 were open last summer when the team returned training camp to Tampa after spending seven years with Mickey in Orlando. Team spokesman Jonathan Grella promised if demand warranted it, more practices would be opened to the public. That, of course, is a move that would cost the organization more money. Does anyone believe the Bucs are going to drop more coin?
The Bucs have also pitched the idea that it will be a more fan friendly experience this time around with more autograph and photo opportunities. The last of the seven practices will be held in Raymond James Stadium and following the workout there will be a fireworks show.
