Does anyone believe Bruce Allen when he says the Washington Redskins have not closed the door on bringing back Albert Haynesworth in 2011?

Everyone knows the Redskins are prone to mistakes from time to time, some bigger and more expensive than others, but there can’t be any way Mike Shanahan or Allen will want anything to do with the combustible Haynesworth after he played in just eight games in 2010 and was a near constant distraction who finally landed a four-game suspension for conduct detrimental to the club.

They don’t want Haynesworth and Haynesworth doesn’t want them.

“We were hopeful that he was going to help the team win and remain hopeful that he can help the team win,” Allen said Thursday at Redskins Park, according to Ryan O’Halloran of CSN Washington. “Hopefully, if we can give it some time to breathe, maybe we can come back with a fresh outlook on it.”

What on earth would lead them to do that?

“Because he’s extremely talented,” Allen said. “Let’s take a look at it at a later time.

“Part of everybody getting together and learning a new system and learning new people is that there are going to be some rough times for everyone, some uneasiness for different players.”

Allen said he spoke with Haynesworth when he returned from suspension Jan. 3 to have an exit interview. Surely, Allen was just posturing Thursday as the Redskins dream up ways of getting something – anything – in return for Haynesworth in a trade. Sooner or later, they’re going to have to simply cut their losses, the biggest losses owner Daniel Snyder has ever incurred in free agency.
