Browns want competition between Hoyer and Manziel

It doesn't look like the Browns want Brian Hoyer and Johnny Manziel to become close friends.

Instead, the organization is looking to bring out the competitive fire between the two during OTAs, minicamp and training camp, to see which quarterback deserves to be the starter.

"We don't want guys who are going to be warm and fuzzy,'' Browns coach Mike Pettine said at a function in Akron, via the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "They're fighting for a job. It's somebody you're going to be working with. It's a unique situation where you're competitive, you want that job. It's not going to be this warm and fuzzy (thing). That to me is how you want your quarterback to be.''

Hoyer had a successful run last year when he was asked to start, though it was brief. He tore his ACL before he could really get going, and the Browns finished 4-12 as a result.

Manziel won a Heisman Trophy in 2012 and resurrected a Texas A&M program that was stagnant for quite some time.

Both quarterbacks, which contrast in style considerably, should have a unique training camp battle later this summer.
