He was selected by the club in the fifth round of the 2013 NFL draft from Western Kentucky University. He spent his rookie season in 2013 on injured reserve recovering from a knee injury sustained during his senior year of college. Smith went on to play 15 games last season, contributing 11 tackles. The Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2012, Smith totaled 24 sacks and 41 tackles for a loss during his four-year career for the Hilltoppers.
