Britt may be healthy enough to play in opener

Barring a setback, wide receiver Kenny Britt might be healthy enough for a handful of snaps in the Tennessee Titans' season opener against the New England Patriots on Sept. 9.

That is, if the league doesn't step in and suspend Britt at the start of the season for his July 20 DUI arrest on the Fort Campbell Army Post.

Britt tells TitanInsider that he is on track health-wise, and Coach Mike Munchak indicated that the receiver might be able to get back in time for the opener. He has missed all of camp following ACL surgery on his right knee in October and clean-ups on both knees over the summer. He is currently still on training camp PUP.

“The position out there at X, you can be out there one-on-one a lot where you're not in traffic a lot. I think if he can be healthy and can pass the physical, there's no reason why he wouldn't have a chance to be ready, unless he has a setback,” Munchak said of Britt. “We've got almost three weeks. That's still a lot of time. Is he going to play 30 or 40 snaps, no. But I think we thought he'd be in that 15 to 20 snap range. Week by week we'll know more as he starts doing more and more football activity. We'll have to make the decision on him at some point.”

Truthfully, even though Britt might be limited, it is possible that he could be stronger and might benefit if the league did suspend him for the first two or four games. It would allow him more time to get the knee strengthened and ready, even though he would be barred from the team facility and would have to do his rehab work independently during a suspension.
