Breaking Down Jalen Ramsey and Desmond King

Jalen Ramsey – DC – Florida State Ramsey is a true third-year junior who has started every game since he enrolled at Florida State in 2013. He is a former 5-star recruit from Nashville, Tennessee. Not only is he a top football player but he is also a nationally renowned track star at Florida State. He competes in the long jump and sprints. Size – 6'1" – 200 – 4.40 (all estimates) Strong Points – Jalen has been a starter at both corner and safety while at Florida State. He is a very smooth athlete with excellent speed and overall body control. He has very quick feet, can stay low in his pedal and has a smooth turn. He shows an outstanding burst out of his turn and transitions very well. Has very good ball reactions. Willing run support player. Shows good instincts and reactions. Great size for a corner and has a frame to easily play at 215. Plays on punt coverage unit. Weak Points – Needs to get stronger, is more of a grab tackler and will miss some because he lacks top upper body strength. Can get a little careless in coverage and will give up some catches that shouldn’t be made. Will get beat off jam a times. Can be slow off blocks, needs to be more aggressive. Hands…only 3 career interceptions (has some drops). Summation -  Has the skill set to be a top cover corner in the NFL. Has great size, speed and overall athleticism. Can play press man, zone and off. He can get and keep good positon on receivers in press, off and zone. Is willing in run support and has been productive on punt coverage teams. He has great ball reactions and gets a number of broken up passes but he lacks top hands and only has three career interceptions. He needs to get strong especially in the upper body and that will improve his tackling. Has the skill set to come in and start as a rookie either on the outside or in the slot. His game will improve as he gets stronger and needs to pay more attention to detail. Desmond King – DC – Iowa King is a third-year junior who has been a starter at corner since his freshman year. He also is used to return punts and kickoffs. Was a top running back and defensive back in high school in his native Detroit. Size – 5'11"– 200 – 4.48 (all estimates) Strong Points – King has very good size for an NFL corner. He will measure in the 5’11 area and has long arms to make him play even taller. He shows good to very good overall athleticism with good speed and has a burst. Can play press, off or zone with equal efficiency. Has top ball reactions and hands (11 interceptions in the last two seasons). Very reliable return man. Good in run support, can be aggressive and is a consistent tackler. Has a quick low pedal and a smooth turn. Can transition well without any false steps. Weak Points – Not a burner (but fast enough), will get beat off the jam at times. Summation – King is a very reliable college corner who has the skill set to come and play right away in the NFL. He always lines up on the right side and he plays press, off and zone. Has a strong jam and shows good to very good mirror skills. Keeps good position in zone. Does a very good job keeping things in front of him and he has excellent ball skills and hands. He is a reliable run support player who can shed and tackle. Is a top college return man who has the sill set to eventually become a clubs top returner in the NFL. The only thing he really lacks is explosive top end speed. Where he gets drafted will be determined by how well he works out at the Combine given that corner is a stop watch dependent position.
