Bobby Rainey wins honor in first start
Tampa Bay running back Bobby Rainey turned the first start of his career into a reward-winning event. Rainey was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week after rushing for 163 yards and scoring three touchdowns in the Buccaneers victory over Atlanta on Sunday.
Rainey has been with three teams this season before landing with the Bucs in Week 8 after a series of injuries at the position. He became the starter after Mike James broke his ankle against Mi-ami. Rainey was with Baltimore in training camp and then was with Cleveland for the first seven weeks of the season.
Aside from Rainey, quarterback Ben Roethlsiberger of Pittsburgh was the AFC Offensive Player of the Week. Jason Pierre-Paul of the New York Giants and Vontaze Burfict of Cincinnati won the NFC and AFC Defensive Player of the Week honors, respectively. Punter Donnie Jones of Philadelphia and Adam Vinatieri of Indianapolis won the NFC and AFC Special Teams honors, re-spectively.
