Biggs: Gonzalez not going gonzo yet

Tony Gonzalez is not going to walk away from the NFL stuck on 999 receptions.

The future Hall of Fame tight end ended this past season one shy of a major career milestone, and told the Atlanta Falcons Web site that he will return in 2010 for a 14th season and his second with a bird on the side of his helmet.

Gonzalez had 83 receptions for 867 yards and six touchdowns with the Falcons. It was his lowest output in terms of yardage since 2002. But he proved to be worth the second-round pick the Falcons gave up for him as he gave quarterback Matt Ryan a nice option in the middle of the field.

“I’ll be around for sure next season,” Gonzalez told the team’s Web site. “You don’t ever want to make a decision right after the season is over. Now that I’ve had a chance to get away from the game a little bit and talk to my family, I’m definitely going to be around for next year. I’m excited about the direction this team is going in. We’ve got a really good football team and I really do believe this could be the best football team I’ve ever played on coming up next year.”

With one catch he will become only the seventh player in league history to have 1,000 receptions.
