Biggs: Family orders 2nd autopsy for Gaines Adams

At the request of the family of Gaines Adams, a second autopsy will be performed on the Chicago Bears defensive end who died Sunday morning in South Carolina.

Initial reports indicated Adams suffered cardiac arrest as a result of an enlarged heart, but a lawn-enforcement official with the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Department told the Chicago Tribune that a second autopsy will be performed today.

Toxicology reports on Adams will not be complete for at least a few months, but drugs are not believed to be involved.

Services for the late 26-year-old will be held Thursday and Friday. Viewing and visitation will be held Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Blyth Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Greenwood, S.C.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Rock Springs Baptist Church in Easley, S.C., located about 20 miles from Clemson University, where Adams was an All-American.
