Biggs: Eagles extend Avant for five years

Few teams do a better job of locking up their own players to longterm contract extensions than the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Eagles struck again this morning when they reached an agreement with wide receiver Jason Avant on a five-year extension. Avant was a restricted free agent and now he gets security moving forward and the team keeps him in place at a value.

The Avant deal comes on the heels of a contract for another Philadelphia restricted free agent, fullback Leonard Weaver, points out Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Avant made 41 receptions for 583 yards and three touchdowns last season, primarily serving as the slot receiver. All figures were career highs. He started nine games.
