The New England Patriots gave up on Brandon Tate, a second-round pick from 2009, but his time in the unemployment line didn't last long.

The Cincinnati Bengals put in a waiver claim for Tate, who caught 24 passes for the Patriots a year ago after missing most of his rookie season with an injury.

Cincinnati is rebuilding on offense with rookie quarterback Andy Dalton and rookie receiver A.J. Green, so it won't hurt to put another young player in the mix to see if he can handle it.

The Bengals also claimed center/guard Mike McGlynn from the Philadelphia Eagles and tight end Mickey Shuler from the Miami Dolphins.

To make room, Cincinnati let go of tight end Chase Coffman, receiver Quan Cosby and center Reggie Stephens.

The Bengals signed seven players to their practice squad including fullback James Develin, linebacker DeQuin Evans, cornerback Brandon Ghe, receiver Andrew Hawkins, quarterback Dan LeFevour, tackle Matthew O’Donnell and defensive Jason Shirley.
