Allen says all he can when it comes to Haynesworth

Bruce Allen said really all he can say when it comes to Albert Haynesworth, the man who got a $21 million roster bonus less than a month ago.

None of the $21 million Haynesworth pocketed obligated him to show up this weekend for the Washington Redskins three-day voluntary minicamp. So Haynesworth stayed away and Allen didn’t make much of it.

“It’s voluntary,” the general manager told the Washington Post.

Haynesworth has reportedly made it clear the only activity he plans on volunteering for this offseason is the mandatory minicamp next month. The Redskins, because they hired a new coach this offseason, are permitted to conduct two minicamps but only one can be mandatory.

Haynesworth doesn’t want to play nose tackle in the new 3-4 defense that is being installed and a trade could potentially materialize during the draft. Clearly, that is what Haynesworth wants and you have to imagine that Mike Shanahan doesn’t want to go into his first season with the franchise with the highest-paid player not on board.

Perhaps Haynesworth is only a Redskin for a few more days. We’ll see. Stay tuned.
