Aaron Rodgers has been in Geno Smith's place before, kind of

Aaron Rodgers has been there before.

Sort of.

The Green Bay Packers quarterback had a shot at going No. 1 overall in 2005 but the San Francisco 49ers went with Alex Smith and a long fall ensued. Rodgers sweated it out in the green room before he was finally selected 24th overall by the Green Bay Packers.

Geno Smith went through the same situation Thursday night with the difference being his name was never called. So, the West Virginia quarterback will have to wait for Round 2 to be selected. Many think he has a chance to go to the Jacksonville Jaguars with the first pick of the round. If not, there could be an early run on some quarterbacks, including Ryan Nassib and Matt Barkley, and surely Smith would be in the mix.

Rodgers took to his Twitter account to tell Smith to keep his chin up.

“Hang in there Geno, "good things come to those who wait" -Paul Tagliabue

That must be what Tagliabue said to Rodgers during his long way. We’ll see how long Smith waits this evening.
