49ers' Ray McDonald arrested on outstanding warrant

San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Ray McDonald was arrested early this morning because of an outstanding warrant.

Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury News reports McDonald has an outstanding warrant tied to a 2010 arrest for suspicion of drunken driving in San Mateo County. McDonald was released from jail in Santa Clara County this morning at 7 a.m. (PST), per the report.

Police in Sunnyvale pulled McDonald over at 2 a.m. and he was arrested then on the warrant. He was pulled over for a routine traffic violation and no other charges were filed.

McDonald was originally arrested more than a year-and-a-half ago on June 12, 2010 for suspicion of DUI. He received a $20 million, five-year contract from the 49ers in July, shortly after the NFL lockout was lifted.

The status of his case remains unknown but this morning authorities certainly did not believe it was resolved.
